BRap Hosting for WordPress Blogs

BRap Hosting for WordPress Blogs

Recently I have been asked “if I offer” / “why don’t I offer” a hosting package on BRap Hosting for WordPress Blogs only.

Cheap Website Hosting

At BRap Hosting we specialize in excellent but cheap website hosting. We have one main hosting package, and it is unlimited hosting. Meaning that there are no limits for disk usage nor for bandwidth, as long as the usage is appropriate for a shared hosting environment. I explain this better in my Knowledgebase article HERE. We also have a special package which allows Streaming. This is also at the low price of $35 per year.

A Simple WordPress Blog

The question goes like this: I don’t know computers so well, I don’t care for the access nor the hassle nor the responsibility of cpanel, nor ftp, nor fantastico. All I want is one thing – to host a simple WordPress blog in my own domain under my own control. I don’t need any access except to my dashboard. Can I get such a package for less than $35 per year?

The truth is that I thought it was a great idea, and I started thinking immediately to implement it. A brand new WordPress blog installed by yours truly on your domain name, for half price, say, something like that.

Knowledge Image by Bianca GubalkeBut then like a flash I realized the pitfall, which makes implemention of such a package impossible. This issue of upgrades. OK, the WordPress upgrades which also come too frequently, this I don’t mind, I’ve done it a million times, and I don’t mind taking it upon myself. However, many bloggers don’t suffice with just a plain blog – they add plugins for all kinds of reasons – features, convenience, esthetics, ecommerce. These also get updates every Monday and Thursday. And for many of these updates you have to have ftp access, which they don’t have. So imagine, I’m making, whatever, a dollar or a dollar and a half per month for such a package, and I am tying myself to it by spending the whole day installing updates. It’s not logical, and it risks not leaving me time to serve my full-service customers with their needs.

So I came up with a compromise: If you take the regular unlimited package for $35/year, with only access to the dashboard of the blog, but not cpanel and ftp access, then I’ll take care of updating the WordPress versions and all the plugins for you. Otherwise I would have to charge for each update, something I don’t want to do, both intrinsically, and also because of other complications from Paypal, which I talked about on a different post.

This is now an article in the Knowledgebase.

Keyword Strategies

Keyword Strategies

I realized that there is a fundamental difference in the keyword strategies pertaining to Google keywords as opposed to Twitter keywords.

Internet Knowledge

Keyword Strategies

Whereas on Google you want to position yourself to be found by the potential reader when he “types in” that which he is “looking for”, on Twitter the person enters in a description about himself, how he views himself. Clearly, a different keyword strategy – right?

Cheap Advertising

Take, for example, if you are marketing cheap advertising.

In Google you would position yourself on the keyword cheap advertising in order to be found by the person who goes and looks for cheap advertising. But in Twitter your potential customers are not going to be found on the keyword cheap advertising. Rather the Twitter search, which is basically a search for people, is how they describe themselves. Someone looking for cheap advertising is not going to call himself Cheap Advertising.

You have to define your target market and go after them.

Maybe Home Business or Internet Marketing.

Get the idea?

Fundamentals

Fundamentals

This weekend I am attending the Ycademy Business Building Seminar to improve my fundamental skills when it comes to developing online Home Business and Internet Marketing knowhow. I have been going monthly since 2007. Generally on the last weekend of the month Ycademy holds a two day seminar on various topics on internet marketing. I go each month to the Sunday session. Since the end of 2007 the seminars have been building one on another around the general area of harvesting traffic from Google rankings through professional blogging.

I enjoy the seminars very much. It is a nice mix between fundementals and hands on application. That is why they generally limit participation to 20-25 people, so that nobody will be left behind.

Fundamentals

Personally, in general, my focus in my online business is on the fundamentals, I believe that this is way to build yourself up. I spent too many years racing after the fast money, and I got burnt quite badly. Also my own personal financial problem is more dependant on the long term solution than the short term solution, and since I have become crystal clear that the short term solution is really, really short, I prefer to bide my time and understand what I am doing, and to build little by little.

I subscribe to many email lists from the gurus and the up-and-coming gurus. I enjoy learning from them, both from their example, and also sometimes from their content. Additionally I don’t mind them selling to me, because I am not averse to spending seven or ten dollars for sincerely good content. “Invest in Your Financial Education”, that is my motto. And I buy, and often I buy with resale rights to recoup my “investment” and for the sake others who are important to me.

You see, I spent too many years and too many dollars following after those who say “do exactly this and do exactly that, and you will become a millionaire like me”. Usually there is something missing that makes it work for them and not for me, and I have come to the conclusion that one of the main differences between me and them is that they have established their authority in the marketplace and generated a following, and I haven’t.

So my plan of action is to learn the basic skills in many many areas, and apply them in practice, to develop my own expertise.

I must have bought tens of quality content-full educational products for myself, each one was another rung in my ladder toward my goal of internet greatness. I have started to organize those that I bought with resale rights on a simple page (so far) so that others who feel like I do can also benefit from quality content to forward their growth. Check out the growing list HERE.

If you are subscribed to this blog I will sell it to you at a discount. Just leave a comment and mention that it is private, so that I won’t publish it, and I will get back to you.

Working from Monkey Valley

by Bianca Gubalke

Working from Monkey Valley

When my trip along Chapman’s Peak to Hout Bay was cancelled due to huge Gale Force storms, and my Studio still being under reconstruction with lots of noise, cement and dust after some serious recent water and storm damage – I decided to grab my laptop and take refuge in my favorite place, snuggled among old protective Milkwood trees and huge fragrant Syringas. . . just above Noordhoek Beach. . . and with WiFi!

Little did I know that what expected me was a wonderful offline experience in terms of Communication and Collaboration all around the Internet and doing Business Online… I even decided to change my initial title for this post – Working from the Beach – into. . . “Working from Monkey Valley”.

See the picture below. . . that’s a piece of Heaven and what you see is the Conference Center… often abused for romantic weddings :)  – then Noordhoek Beach . . . the Atlantic Ocean – the whales are still around – and Kommetjie with its famous lighthouse at the horizon. Yeah… it’s tough having no place to go but that one . . . read on!

Monkey Valley Beach Nature Resort, Noordhoek

Facebook and Home Business

Once back home and temporarily re-installed in my Studio and finally online – as despite WiFi there was absolutely no connectivity – Yorgo’s article with the title “Facebook and Home Business” just made me smile as it reflected in many ways how I think and feel regarding the Internet in general and Social Networks like Facebook, Twitter and now the new kid on the blog… I mean bloc: Google Wave in particular. . . And how many of us who have been around for a while – say since 2000 or so – became victims of the so-called CAN Spam act – which in a way destroyed the relatively harmless and in my case absolutely unproblematic way of doing serious and exciting Business Online – just to find ourselves super-spammed wherever there’s a hole that allows for any virtual breakthrough and subsequent flow – with our permission or without it!

Is there a thing like ‘permission’ on the Internet anyway? Not to speak of ethics and mutual respect . . . or just an amorphous, egocentric mass hiding in an anonymous zone of readily exchangeable usernames and favicons?

No… the day was too good, I won’t go there… let me get back to:

Working from Monkey Valley

Working from Monkey Valley is too good to be true! Actually, I don’t really want to spread the word too much in order to keep it as is, so don’t tell anyone else…

Besides making me feel totally immersed in Nature with a distinct “Out of Africa” touch – be it in the ‘tree tops’ overlooking a white and almost virgin Noordhoek Beach along the turquoise yet dramatically windswept waters of the Atlantic Ocean  – or on the protected deck under old milkwood trees with a spectacular view of the mountains or the sea… this is the place with the absolutely best Butter Croissants in the world! Yes! it was just confirmed again: you don’t even find these in France anymore. C’est fini! C’est ici! I go many miles for a good butter croissant – and these are just divine! And the coffee is the real thing… and my favourite latte looks like an ice cream from Copacabana – and it tastes delicious! All this and more is in the hands of a new owner and his charming, witty, attentive Team . . . many coming from Zimbabwe.

We will do an Interview soon. . .

Social Network Marketing

The chapter on the “Social Network Marketing Challenge” beautifully illustrates how we market in the social environment – online. Up to the cup of coffee… and this is where I compare with my experience today – as the moment I had settled with my laptop and my latte… enter an extremely talented young musician who just split from the band he played with to get some ’space’ and pursue his own career (I always thought he should. . .) and the conversation flow starts effortlessly. . . no push marketing, no pull marketing… yet an intensive exchange of thoughts and questions around the Internet, Business Online, Social Network Marketing and the importance of having a professional online presence, a website, a blog and control of one’s name!

Even without Internet connectivity, there was enough on my laptop that I could present, explain and show. We were in a totally relaxed space to communicate, exchange, build trust – which attracted more attention. Besides knowing each other, the attraction was a real interest and a rather urgent need in terms of Online Marketing to further build his musical career – and I was just at the right time at the right place and… I was ready!

A lot to learn from that when it comes to the online marketing environment. . .

And this was not the only ‘case’ today, in fact there were several. . . I am amazed at the effortless exposure I got for my online business. . . offline!

Which is yet another important lesson that also confirms my conviction to focus on using the Internet to build local Business.

Social Network Publishing and Marketing at Ycademy Seminar

The next Ycademy Seminar on 21 and 22 November 2009 will be focusing on “Social Network Publishing and Marketing”, integrating the new and soon to be released Google Wave Communication and Collaboration instrument that might well be revolutionizing the way we communicate on the Internet. Connecting with the most relevant Social Networks in a smart and communication-enhancing yet time-saving way and applying efficient marketing strategies are key to being successful with a Home Business Online.

Last tickets may be obtained HERE – the Seminar is entirely online and recorded. A must for anyone involved with Social network Publishing and Marketing Online.

And then. . . as my Studio is not ready yet I might just be back at Monkey Valley Beach Nature Resort tomorrow. . . laptop, latte and croissant! Anyone out there who wants to join me?
